It was a post-match press conference that turned into a signing session, with Jürgen Klopp almost being forced by a St. Pauli staff member – obviously a fan of Borussia - to sign a number of autographs and pictures. Once that was done, the Dortmund coach also found time to talk a bit about football.

What’s your verdict on the game?

We played a very good first half. We had a plan and the team implemented it. Despite little training, the team successfully carried out the changes to the system. It was a well-deserved 2-0 lead at half-time. We actually scored another goal, a regular one, but it was disallowed, and Tschauner [St.Pauli goalkeeper] also did well. At the other end, Langerak was forced into a fine save to prevent an equaliser.

Was your team able to conserve some energy in the second half?

We didn’t start it well, but that has also happened in the league before, at times when we were a lot more successful. The second half wasn’t as intense as in the first; there were a lot of long balls. The third goal came a bit too late but it came. No one got injured, we are through to the third round – everything’s fine!

How did you like the atmosphere at Millerntor?

It was a great atmosphere. I can’t remember ever being booed so much. I guess it was because I once felled a certain Mr Hollerbach here. It looks like they haven’t forgotten it…
