There has been a lot of speculation about Borussia Dortmund’s injury situation. Two days ahead of Saturday’s trip to SC Paderborn, Marco Reus is set to return while Mats Hummels is running out of time to prove his fitness.

Reus, BVB’s outstanding player against Mönchengladbach (1-0), came through Tuesday’s training match against Havelse (2-1) without any problems and also completed the full training session on Wednesday with the players who were not on international duty or only made brief appearances. A relieved Jürgen Klopp said, “Marco looks fit to play.”

Klopp counts on Piszczek and Aubameyang

With the exception of Sokratis, who would be suspended anyway and who is still “limping a bit” following his broken fibula suffered against Gladbach, Klopp should have the same squad available that managed to grab the long-awaited win before the international break.

Lukas Piszczek, who as agreed didn’t feature in Poland’s friendly against Switzerland (2-2), returned early from Warsaw with back problems but looks set to be available for Saturday’s match in Paderborn. The same applies to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was first struggling from a muscular problem and then from a stomach illness. “He was jogging again yesterday,” revealed Klopp on Thursday, adding, “I expect him back in training today. Then we’ll see whether he’s still affected by the illness.”

Hummels could return against Arsenal

Mats Hummels’s return, however, could be delayed by two or three days. “It’s gone on longer than we would have liked,” said Klopp. “Unless a miracle happens, we hope he'll be an option for Wednesday” when BVB play away at Arsenal.

The long-term injured Nuri Sahin, Jakub Blaszczykowski and Oliver Kirch also will have to be patient for a little longer. “They are not as far as Reus, ideally we still are able to give them some time.”
