Borussia Dortmund will go into Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match at Arsenal with a five-point advantage over the Premier League side. A point will be enough for BVB to secure top spot in the group.

What are the advantages of finishing top of the group?

The group winners will face the group runners-up in the last 16 (first leg on 17/18/24/25 February 2015; return leg on 10/11/17/18 March 2015) and have home advantage in the return leg. In the last 16 no team can play a side from their own country or one they have already faced in the Champions League this season.

What must happen for BVB to win the group?

  • A win or a draw at Arsenal in the fifth game of the group stage will see the Black and Yellows finish top of the standings.
  • If BVB lose by fewer than three goals against Arsenal, a draw in the last game at home against Anderlecht will be enough for them to win the group.
  • If they lose by four or more goals on Wednesday, BVB will need to achieve the same result against Anderlecht as Arsenal at Galatasaray.
