Press conferences with Jürgen Klopp are almost always entertaining affairs, even more so on the international stage. At the pre-match press conference for the UEFA Champions League game at Arsenal, the Dortmund coach was in a particularly good mood, maybe also because he was answering most of the questions in English. Here are his key statements from the press conference (which is also available to watch on BVB Total).

Jürgen Klopp on…

…Shinji Kagawa’s current form: “Shinji is as close to form as he can be. He played a lot of good games, but also some that weren’t that good. But I think that he can do a lot better, which, by the way, applies to all of us.”

… the pressure that Arsène Wenger is currently facing at Arsenal: “I can’t say anything on his situation in London. Of course, Chelsea are top, Manchester United have problems, Manchester City at least have problems in the Champions League. I don’t know whether the people here expect Arsenal to walk through the league. But the Premier League is too strong to walk through it. And if Wenger faces some pressure, then that’s normal. I also have pressure, but it’s not coming from the club, the fans or the media, its coming from me.”

… Arsenal’s performance in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United: “We watched the first half on the way back from Paderborn. Arsenal were clearly the better team and still suffered a defeat. That’s football. Arsenal are a strong side if you let them being strong. It’s our job to prevent that.”

… possible parallels between the situation at Arsenal and the situation at BVB: ”No, I don’t see any. We also have much more injured players and many other problems. When I think about the Bundesliga, this here is a little bit like a holiday for me. After all, it’s only the Champions League… Of our last four games, we had six good and two poor halves. And these two poor halves were the reason why we lost two games, even if one finished 2-2. That’s our problem, and it is due to the fact that we are underestimating the situation or lacking concentration.”

… the 2-2 draw with Paderborn on Saturday: “A perfectly good goal was ruled out, a red card for Paderborn not shown. And that there were only three minutes of added time no one has even bothered to mention yet. But all these facts should really be put to rest now and stored in the DFB’s new museum. However, if you dominate a game as much as we did in the first half and don’t wrap it up, you only have yourself to blame. You have to work for your luck, and in Paderborn we didn’t work hard enough.”

… the situation in the Champions League: “We are under a lot of pressure, not in terms of qualifying for the last 16 but in terms of finishing top. We very much want to win the group.”
