“The opposition didn’t have to do much to score two goals,” said Jürgen Klopp after the 2-0 defeat at Frankfurt on Sunday night. Speaking about his side’s performance, the Dortmund coach added, “The team tried everything, but on one or two occasions made the wrong decisions. However, it’s not true that they didn’t play at 100 percent.”

Jürgen Klopp on the game:

We came into this game highly motivated but suffered an early setback. For us and our situation, conceding so early was the worst thing that could have happened. The opposition didn’t have to do much to score this goal, and it really hurt us. The team tried to get over it, but wasn’t relaxed enough to take their chances. Frankfurt were in a good shape, and yet we still had the better opportunities before we conceded a second…

… on the foul on Aubameyang before Frankfurt’s second goal:

I think you could have given a foul here. Once again, we conceded this goal in an unusual way. It fits into our cabinet of curiosities. It didn’t really matter whether we lose 1-0 or 2-0 as we didn’t score anyway.

… on effort and result:

We had opportunities but didn’t take them. Wiedwald made some great saves. The opponent doesn't need to do much to score a goal, yet we do a lot for nothing. This is the situation. It doesn’t matter how good you can play if you make the kind of errors we did before the first goal. We played well, but not well enough. And I can’t really say we set the world alight today with our performance and were just unlucky.

… on the reasons BVB failed to find the net:

We are not confident enough in some situations. We always make a good start to the game, but then miss really big chances, while the opposition almost always score from their first opportunity. This is unexplainable. Things then always go downhill, and our challenge is to stop this from happening. Today, we failed to do so once again.

... on the team’s attitude:

They tried everything but on one or two occasions made the wrong decisions. However, it’s not true that they didn’t play at 100 percent. We now need to turn our focus on the next game.

… on the reaction of the fans:

The fans supported us throughout the game. We are giving them a hard time at the moment. They booed us at the end, and I can understand their displeasure. We were not celebrated but we have given them few reasons to do so in the last couple of weeks. We know that we must work hard now to earn their trust back.

… on the future:

We wanted to improve our situation dramatically with a win in Frankfurt but we didn't succeed, on the contrary in fact. We will continue nevertheless, and have to break through this situation. Ultimately it’s about being more consistent in some areas to steer the game in the right direction.
