Borussia Dortmund’s situation in the Bundesliga put a bit of a damper on the draw for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, but, of course, BVB chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke was in Nyon to witness the event. His verdict on the draw with Juventus: “It’s a tough one. It will be a 50-50 game.”

Hans-Joachim Watzke (BVB chairman): “Juventus against Borussia Dortmund – this is an international classic. A tough draw but there really weren’t any easy ones left. It will be a 50-50 game.”

Michael Zorc (BVB sporting director): “I must admit that I wasn’t as nervous as at earlier draws as our current situation in the league is more important. We know Juventus from some great matches in the 1990s. The club has a unique standing in Italy, and has been exempt from the kind of problems that other sides are experiencing in Italy. Juventus are league champions and current league leaders, and players like Buffon, Vidal, Pogba or Tevez stand for quality of the highest level. I’m confident that our form will be better in mid-February. Everything is possible over two games. But right now we are only interested in the Bundesliga.”

Jürgen Klopp (BVB coach): “My anticipation is dampened somewhat, and I find it hard to talk about the Champions League today. Juventus are a real challenge. They are the best team in Italy and very experienced. We will have to be at our best. It’s not an easy draw, but it could have been worse.”
