The police initially drew a positive conclusion in the wake of the 146th Ruhr derby. "The security concept devised by the Working Group for the Derby has proven successful again," revealed Head of Operations Dieter Keil to Ruhr Nachrichten on Saturday evening. There were only minor problems caused by some fans travelling to the game.

Approximately 600 Schalke fans tried to make their own way to the Borussia Dortmund stadium on Saturday without authorisation. The police prevented this and let the fans into the stadium just minutes before kick-off. They were travelling from the direction of Barop and were therefore heading for a route intended for Dortmund fans.
This meant that thousands of Dortmund fans attending the match had to wait under the Wittekindstraße/B1 bridge for three quarters of an hour until the Schalke fans were in the stadium. But this was accepted in good spirits. "We're good hosts. And the guests won't be taking any points home with them," one Dortmund fan said.
In addition, Cologne supporters on the lookout for violence were detained some hours before the match. According to the police, the group of between 20 and 25 people were allegedly members of the Cologne ultras group known as "Boyz". Its members recently came in for criticism following the riot that took place at the match between Borussia Monchengladbach and 1 FC. Cologne.
The Boyz members were picked up by the police in Dortmund on Saturday morning. Officials carried out vehicle inspections, confiscating narcotic substances and impact tools in the process. "We're assuming that they wanted to mar the derby day atmosphere by committing offences outside the stadium," said a police spokesperson. All of the suspects were detained.
Furthermore, two BVB supporters at the derby were detained for insulting behaviour and showing resistance to the authorities. A Schalke fan was also sent to the cells for the use of a pyrotechnic. One official was also slightly injured by a Schalke fan using pepper spray. (RN/br)
