Borussia Dortmund and Dynamo Dresden are set to square off in the DFB Cup for a second occasion. They also played eight Bundesliga matches between 1991 and 1995.

One team always fails to score
Remarkably, in all matches between Borussia and Dynamo at least one team has failed to score: Dresden on seven occasions and Dortmund on three occasions. Meaning that whoever scored the first goal has always won the game.

Borussia with a clear edge
In the league BVB won five of the eight encounters, but only one in Dresden: in the two sides' last meeting there on 29 October 1994 Borussia won 1-0 thanks to an Andreas Möller goal. There was also one draw (0-0 in Dresden on 22 February 1992). Dynamo won two of their three home matches against BVB (3-0 and 4-0).

En route to Berlin
On 25 October 2011 BVB won the second round match against the then second-tier Dynamo Dresden 2-0 thanks to goals from Lewandowski and Götze.

Recently solid against lower league opposition
In former years Borussia Dortmund were often prone to "Cup upsets". However, the Klopp era has changed that, with the side only suffering two defeats to lower league opposition under his stewardship: 2009 in Osnabrück and 2010 in Offenbach.

Last season BVB won away to Saarbrücken in the last 16 of the DFB Cup.

Terrorising the Ruhr
Dynamo initially created quite a stir in round one when they knocked Champions League participants and five-time DFB Cup winners Schalke 04 out of the competition with a 2-1 win. "And they deserved it too," as kicker magazine wrote. Dresden served up a repeat performance in the second round with another 2-1 victory over VfL Bochum, eventually prevailing after extra time. Justin Eilers was the hero on that occasion. The Dynamo wing forward, who was injured going into the game, first equalised after Terodde's opener and then grabbed the winner for the third division side in extra time. They were Eilers' second and third goals in this season's DFB Cup.

Even record in last 16
This will be Borussia Dortmund's 24th appearance in the DFB Cup last 16. They have progressed 13 times and been knocked out 10 times.
