After the clear but also unfortunate 1-3 defeat against Mönchengladbach – and before the two home games against SC Paderborn and Eintracht Frankfurt, Marcel Schmelzer had the following to say: “we want to win back those six points that we have lost in the last two games as soon as possible.” The left back went into the game with a knock and played with clenched teeth for 70 minutes.

Marcel Schmelzer: “if you go behind 0-1 against such a strong Borussia that early in the game it will be difficult. We still tried to get to grips with the situation and tried to play decent football. That did not work out so well in the first half. When we repositioned and changed our system in the second half it worked better. If we would have got a goal back before they got their third it could have been quite exciting. Our aim is to definitely win our next home game and to really go for it and get another win after that. But first of all we will concentrate on Paderborn. We now have one week to prepare for this game.”

Jeremy Dudziak: “we are frustrated and disappointed after this defeat. But of course personally I am still happy that I got to play again. That is like a dream.”

Mats Hummels: “the first minute was an indication that we will probably go home with empty hands. I slipped for the first goal, it was my mistake, and there is no way round it. Yesterday we just so happened to speak about the right choice of boot. I said that so far everything went well for me in these football boots and that I have never slipped in my career. That certainly fits in with this season. After the 0-1 we totally had control of the game – until Patrick Herrmann had his solo run. After they made it 2-0 you could really tell that they were brimming with confidence. When they scored to make it 3-0 we set up the goal for them…everything seemed to work in a negative kind of way. We were deservedly beaten by an extremely effective team. We have to win the points against Paderborn and Frankfurt, so that we don’t slip back into the lower regions of the table. Today was the first really bad game for us in a long time.” (br/fu)
