The compulsory matchday press conference had only just begun when Jürgen Klopp received an SMS from team doctor Markus Braun. The head coach furrowed his brow as he read the long text message, which contained little in the way of good news.

"Kuba, Manni Bender, Erik Durm, Kevin Großkreutz and Marco Reus can only train individually today," read the coach, before adding: "Neven Subotic and Sebastian Kehl are undergoing treatment."

"Treatment" is another way to convey the bad news that neither player will be able to feature in Saturday's Bundesliga clash with SC Paderborn, with Subotic suffering from a slightly slipped disc while Kehl broke a rib in yesterday's training. Klopp said: "It was the sixth rib on the right, he'll be back in two weeks."

In view of the long-term injuries to Lukasz Piszczek, Nuri Sahin and Oliver Kirch, the latest news has only served to reignite the club's injury crisis. Moaning does not help though. "Many clubs have injured or hurt players," declared Klopp. "There's nothing we can do about it, so we just need to get on with it." (br)
