Football World Cup winners Germany have taken over at the top of the table in their EURO qualification group: in the best game by a distance since the World Cup 2014 the DFB team highly deserved to win in Frankfurt by 3-1 (2-1) against Poland.

On the German side the Borussia Dortmund players Mats Hummels and from the 53.minute Ilkay Gündogan made an appearance. Gündogan set up a great chance for the two time goal scorer Mario Götze. The first goal was also scored by a Bayern Munich player: Thomas Müller. The ex-Borussia striker Robert Lewandowski got one back to make the score 1-2. Jakub Blaszczykowski, who has gone out to Fiorentina on loan was brought on as a substitute.

Worries about Lukasz Piszczek

The only downside of a great football evening: Borussia Dortmund’s Lukasz Piszczek had to be taken off just before half-time. It is still unclear what injury he suffered. (br)
