62 days, 16 matches, 15 victories, 73 goals, 10 conceded from all matches including friendlies before the end of August. Borussia Dortmund entered the Thomas Tuchel era with flying colours.

The team reached the group stages of the UEFA Europa League, the second round of the DFB-Pokal Cup and celebrated their first three Bundesliga victories: top of the table. To kick off the 2015/16 season the team thumped Champions League competitors Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0. The Black and Yellows delivered an outstanding performance with Marco Reus (15), Pierre Aubameyang (21) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (33, 50) scoring the goals. “Such a start was not to be expected, we played against the best team of the second half of the previous season,” marvelled Coach Thomas Tuchel who admitted “this is something you don’t dare to dream of…”

Matthias Ginter scored his first goal for BVB, ensuring a 1-0 lead over FC Ingolstadt which ended in another 4-0 thrashing following further goals from Aubameyang, Reus and Shinji Kagawa. For the first time since 28. September 2013, Borussia Dortmund was the league leader again. BVB beat Hertha BSC 3-1 in a hot battle on a pitch that was 43 degrees! Mats Hummels scored the opener with a header in the 27th minute. In the second half BVB upped the tempo with Aubameyang scoring in the 52nd minute. The match became even more exciting when Hertha reduced the lead to 2-1 with a goal from Kalou in the 78th minute, but Adrian Ramos consolidated the victory with a third goal in the third minute of stoppage time. Reus sustained a hairline crack in his toe and was subsequently out of action for three weeks.

Not only was it going well in the league but also in the Cup: with a 2-0 victory over Chemnitzer FC last year’s finalists were through to the second round. Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan were the scorers. There was a goal fest in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League qualifying match against Wolfsberger AK. The Black and Yellows made it a very exciting second half for the 65,190 spectators, quickly setting the record straight. First Reus (48) and Aubameyang (61), then a Mkhitaryan hat-trick (73, 82, 86) secured a clear 5-0 victory.

In the next round BVB travelled to Norway. The first leg against Odds BK was a “night of records” in BVB history: the fastest goal scored and the fastest 3-0 deficit in the European competition. For the first time ever BVB won an international game after being 3-0 behind. Mkhitaryan scored six minutes before the end to make it 4-3 to Borussia (Aubameyang scored twice and Kagawa scored the other). BVB also hit the woodwork four times. There was another record in the number of shots in the second leg, 34, which has never been achieved before in a BVB home game. In the highest scoring match in Europa League history, Borussia destroyed Odds BK 7-2 with three goals from Reus, two from Kagawa and one from both Mkhitaryan and Gündogan.

On the last day of the transfer market, there were three moves. Adnan Januzaj arrived on loan from Manchester United and Jakub Blaszczykoswki went to Fiorentina on loan. “Kuba is not only a great football player but also a wonderful person," said Michael Zorc. For him it is very important to gain some experience on the pitch ahead of Euro 2016. Oliver Kirch (“I would not trade the 30 matches I had at BVB for a 100 games at any other club”) bid farewell before his transfer to SC Paderborn and Kevin Grosskreutz moved to Galatasaray.

At the press conference Hans-Joachim Watzke and Thomas Tress revealed a 276 million euro revenue, a consolidated operating profit of 55.6 million euro and earnings of 5.5 million euros after tax for the 2014/15 financial year. For the fifth year in a row announced a profit of an additional 101.6 million euro.
