With a goal and an assist to his name, Marco Reus was a key performer as BVB beat Mönchengladbach. In an interview with BVBtotal!, he spoke about the match, his performance and tactics.

Marco, winning in Gladbach in the first match after the winter break is a real statement. Not many teams out there will manage that…
"Absolutely. It was a very, very difficult match - but the coaching staff had prepared us very well. We knew what to expect and how to react to it. In the first period we gave away very little. We did win the ball back a lot in the opposition's half, but unfortunately we only managed to capitalise on this once. The second half was not particularly good from us, our play was a little bit disjointed. During a period of pressure we went 3-1 up, and then it was game over. It was really hard work. But we are very happy that we got the victory."

Normally, you constantly switch flanks with Henrikh Mkhitaryan during a match. But today you stuck to your position on the right wing and he stayed over on the left. What was the thinking behind this?
"We obviously look at the opponent closely and try to react. The coach spoke to the two of us and said that he felt it would be better if "Miki" played down the left and I on the right. It worked out pretty well."

"The next challenge comes next week"

You scored one goal and set up another. How satisfied are you with your own performance?
"I'm very satisfied of course. I am happy I am healthy, that I have made a good start to the New Year and that I was able to help out the team. We won the match, that was our objective. The next challenge comes next week."

What can you take from this game for the one awaiting you next week?
"A lot. We will review today's match, because especially after they pulled one back, we had a spell in which we did not play so well. We will take another look at this, analyse the mistakes and try to avoid making them the next time we play." (djg)
