„Sebastian Rode is a dynamic and tough-tackling player with an extremely valuable character. We are very pleased to have secured his services,“ said Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc.
Sebastian Rode has 99 appearances and five goals in the Bundesliga to his name for Eintracht Frankfurt (2010-2014, 94 appearances in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, scoring 4 goals) and FC Bayern München (2014–2016, 38 appearances/3 goals). He started his career at his local youth side Viktoria Griesheim before moving to Kicker Offenbach via SV Darmstadt 98 in summer 2008, where he made his debut in the third division. Rode turned out for Germany at every youth level from under-18 to under-21 (12 appearances, one goal).

„I've been a BVB fan since a child and am therefore delighted that a transfer to my favourite club worked out. Thomas Tuchel is a fantastic coach and I also know many of teammates as very strong characters and extremely great players. I am looking forward to the new challenge and my first home game in black and yellow at the Signal Iduna Park", said Rode.

Sebastian Rode has a reputation as a robust and aggressive yet fair style of play. In his 99 Bundesliga appearances, he has only received 19 yellow cards.
Both clubs agreed not to disclose details of the transfer fee.
