Borussia Dortmund players Sven Bender and Matthias Ginter have received a call-up to the Germany squad for the upcoming Olympic Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro from 3 to 20 August. Sven Bender's twin brother Lars, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, has also been called up.

"There is huge excitement about the Olympic Games. I've been thinking about going to Rio for quite some time. It will be a one-off experience for us, one that the players will be able to tell their grandchildren about," said DFB coach Horst Hrubesch, adding: "I am sure that these lads are capable of great things. We are going to Brazil with the goal of winning each game. Anything else would be pointless."

On 28 July the Germany men's team for the Olympics will convene in Frankfurt for a three-day training camp, before boarding a flight to Brazil on 30 July. On 4 August (22:00 CET), the DFB team will square off against Mexico in its opening match. Games against South Korea and Fiji will follow on 7 August (21:00 CET) and 10 August (21:00 CET) respectively.
