Thomas Tuchel described the 0-2 defeat in the 2016 Supercup to Bayern Munich as "unlucky and undeserved". The manager noted:  "The team showed good energy on the pitch and were able to create a good amount of chances on goal, especially in the first half."

Thomas Tuchel on the game against Bayern Munich:
"What I see in the statistics – more chances on goal, better possession, superiority in the tackle, a higher number of passes – is congruent with what I felt to be the case while watching from the touchline, namely, that we had to accept an unlucky and undeserved defeat. We invested a lot in this game; that was what we demanded of ourselves. The team showed good energy on the pitch and were able to create a good amount of chances on goal, especially in the first half, but we consistently failed to bring moves to a successful conclusion due to carelessness and smaller technical mistakes."

... on the lessons to be learned from this game: "Our task is to keep our attacks frequent and loaded with energy, not to take our foot off the gas and to keep going for the full 90 minutes. That is a question of physical fitness, concentration and team-work. We took another stop forward today against Bayern, but there is still a long way to go along this path. It is a lot of fun to be making this journey with the team. I am enthused by what I saw them invest in today's game, by what they showed."

... on a sense of déjà-vu with Ribery:
"That is exactly what it was. And I judge it to be the same thing as in the cup final. You have only to watch the replay, and then there can be no doubt as to how it is to be assessed. The linesman, fourth official and the referee formed a triangle around the scene and were standing a distance of no more than 15 metres away. In the cup final, the fourth official had to pull a finger out of Gonzo's eye. The same player, the same action, again today, okay..."

... on Mario Götze:
"He didn't play because he, like Schü and a couple of other players, had only been in training for nine days. We knew that we wanted to play with a certain intensity. Our preparation did not and does not involve straining players who have only recently arrived with such games, rather utilising those who have been in training for at least four to five weeks."

 ... on Felix Passlack:
"Very good."
