Thomas Tuchel lined up those players who did not play or only played a bit part against FC Bayern on Sunday for the 100 year anniversary game of SV Sandhausen. The many, many BVB fans among the 10 000 spectators in the Hardtwald stadium saw a team full of big names: the World Champions Götze, Schürrle and Weidenfeller were in the team, as was the European Champion Guerreiro and Weigl, Piszczek, Sahin and Mor, all who took part in the EURO. The youngsters Pulisic, Burnic and Merino completed the team.

BVB had to withstand a very scary moment at the start of the match right near the gates of Heidelberg, when Kosecki missed the goal from 5 yards out after a pass from Piedl (1.). Mor had the first chance for the Black Yellows, when his shot hit the outside of the net (7.). Just a moment later Guerreiro set up Schürrle, who diverted the ball into the net with his stretched out leg (8.). Then Götze played the ball to Schürrle, who could not beat goalkeeper Wulle (22.). In the final phase of the first half, SVS had two more chances on goal: Vollmann just missed the goal (37.) and Weidenfeller saved from Höler (39.).

BVB played in a 4-2-3-1 formation, whereby outside back Guerreiro played very high up the pitch. Schürrle and Pulisic took turns playing up front.

Borussia got their second goal six minutes after the break after a big mistake by Sandhausen. Goalkeeper Wulle could not control the ball against Mor, who  had no problem pushing the ball over the line to make it 0-2. Then Götze set up Schürrle, who scored his second goal on this warm summer evening with a nice lob (59.). Götze was then involved in a similar situation, but this time Wulle was not beaten by the lob and made a good save (62.).
