The scenario: Fifth against first. A win would see the Black and Yellows halve the gap to the table-toppers to three points. It is the best attack in the league (BVB, 25 goals) against the second-best (FCB, 24).

Home/away: Borussia Dortmund are now unbeaten in 26 matches on home turf, setting a new club record. The last home defeat came on 4 April 2015 at the hands of FC Bayern, who have won seven of their last eight away matches in the Bundesliga and are currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak on the road.

Personnel matters: As of Thursday, both sides are at full strength except for Borussia's Bender (bone marrow oedema), Durm (fitness training after knee operation) and Subotic (fitness training after chest operation), as well as Bayern's Coman (tear of the lateral collateral ligament in the knee).

Head-to-head record: The previous 94 meetings between the teams have produced 23 Dortmund wins, 29 draws and 42 defeats, while the last ten Bundesliga encounters in Dortmund have yielded three BVB wins, four draws and three defeats.

Statistics: BVB are unbeaten in four league outings and have not lost any of the last 17 matches in which they scored first (the last five have all ended in victory). Bayern are even stronger after taking the lead, having not lost a single one of the last 34 matches in which they have broken the deadlock. Neither team has given away a penalty yet this season!

Referee: Tobias Stieler, 35, from Hamburg will oversee the clash. He will be assisted on the sidelines by Dr. Markus Jöllenbeck and Sascha Thielert. Guido Kleve will be the fourth official.

Attendance: SIGNAL IDUNA PARK is sold out with 81,360 spectators attending.

The biggest home win: On 3 June 1967, Borussia demolished Bayern 4-0 at the Rote Erde Stadium with Lothar Emmerich and Reinhold Wosab each grabbing a brace.
