Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put BVB 1-0 ahead against FC Bayern with his first shot of the match and opted for the unusual celebration of dropping to the ground and doing three press-ups. With 12 goals in 11 games, the striker has now moved level with Anthony Modeste at the top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts. Speaking in a post-match interview, the Gabon international told BVBtotal! how he feels, what that goal celebration was all about and what went wrong in the 71st minute.

Auba, your goal was the deciding factor behind Borussia's first home Bundesliga victory over Bayern in more than four years. Why was it a deserved win?
It was a really hard match for us. But the whole team worked very, very hard for this victory. It's exactly for that reason that we deserved to win. It was a special match, with the spectators generating an incredible atmosphere. We did it! So we are absolutely delighted.

What was your goal celebration all about?
A good friend of mine, a rapper from France, was in the stadium tonight. He wrote a song about press-ups, which was why I chose to celebrate in that manner. To be honest he is a Bayern fan and not only my friend, but also a friend of Franck Ribery. So I told him that by the end of the match he would be a BVB fan.

"We need to keep going like this"

Given that you won anyway, I think this question is allowed: what happened with that golden chance of yours in the 71st minute?
That was obviously a huge chance for me to kill the game. I lost control of the situation. Usually I would take it on my right foot. That goes to show that I need to keep practising such scenarios. That way it will go in the next time.

If you had lost, you would have fallen nine points behind Bayern. Now you've reduced that gap to three points. How important was the win in terms of your position in the table?
Extremely important of course. We are now finally back on track and we need to continue in this vein. We need to keep our focus on our own games and must not get distracted by how other teams are doing. We need to keep going like this. (djg)
