The goals scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus against Real Madrid were BVB's 20th and 21st of this European campaign, making them the highest scorers in the history of the Champions League group stages.

On the mark yet again: Marco Reus

Goals record: The previous record of 20 goals in the group stages was set by Manchester United (1998/99) and equalled by Barcelona (2011/12 and 2016/17) and Real Madrid (2013/14).

Group winners: It was the fourth Champions League campaign in a row that Borussia Dortmund finished the group in top spot, and the second time they had done so ahead of Real Madrid after 2012/13.

Unbeaten: For the second time in 11 seasons in Europe's elite club competition, BVB were unbeaten throughout the group stages. The first was in 2012/13 (four wins, two draws).

Dominant: Borussia had 53% possession in the Bernabeu, played 100 passes more than Real (584-479), achieved a pass completion rate of 87% (compared to Real's 84%) and ran 114 kilometres, six more than their opponents.

Strong on the road: Borussia have now only lost one of their last six away matches at European level and have won seven of their last 11.

Key figure: What a comeback! In four games back after six months sidelined with injury, Marco Reus has been involved in 09 goals, scoring four himself and setting up another five.

Comeback: Borussia Dortmund are the first team in 14 years to come back from two goals down in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. AEK Athens were the last to do so on 22 October 2002.

Home run over: Real Madrid finally failed to win in front of their own fans following an eight-game winning streak at home in the UEFA Champions League. (br)
