Borussia Dortmund enjoyed the better of the shots (23-8), especially in the second half (13-2), and the possession (68%) as they came close to victory against Augsburg. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had as many shots as the entire FCA team put together. Here we bring you the match facts.

Home fortress: BVB are now unbeaten in 29 home games in the Bundesliga and did not lose at Signal Iduna Park in 2016. Their 25 UEFA Europa League/Champions League, DFB Cup and Bundesliga matches this year have yielded 17 victories and eight draws.

Strong spirit: Borussia Dortmund went 1-0 down for the seventh successive competitive match but have only lost one of those seven matches (one win, five draws).

Two-footed: Ousmane Dembélé has now scored four Bundesliga goals, two with his left and two with his right. On top of those four goals there have been seven assists, meaning the 19-year-old has been involved in a goal every 90 minutes on average this season!

Spanish defence: Mikel Merino and Marc Bartra started a game together for the first time. Merino, who had previously only made the starting XI once – in the 1-1 draw with Hertha BSC on 14 October, had more touches than any other player on the pitch (154).

Curious trend: Borussia Dortmund have consistently failed to win their last game of the year since 2012; before today there were three defeats and a draw. Augsburg, meanwhile, have never lost the last Bundesliga match of a calendar year, winning twice and drawing four times.

Few changes: BVB rotated in only two positions for the Augsburg match, with Shinji Kagawa replacing the suspended Marco Reus and Mikel Merino coming in for Sven Bender. The last time they made so few changes for a competitive game was at the start of October.
