Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool FC supporters have both been recipients of the new FIFA Fan Award. The World Soccer Association honoured the conduct of the spectators of both clubs during the Europa League quarter final tie at Anfield Road last year.

In memory of the 96 victims of the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989, fans of both clubs together sang “You’ll never walk alone”. Torsten Schild, Chairman of the BVB Fan Club and PR department, said at the tribute on Monday night in Zurich that the award was devoted to the victims of the stadium tragedy.

The fans of the Icelandic national team were also chosen for their exemplary behaviour at the 2016 European Championships as well as the supporters of Dutch club ADO Den Haag, who, for a match, placed cuddly toys under the seats of terminally ill children, which was particularly well received. (dpa)
