Thomas Tuchel and Roman Weidenfeller spoke to sky und BVBtotal! directly after the match. "We've picked up the first three points of the New Year," said Weidenfeller. "That marks the start of our catch-up mission." Here we bring you the first reactions to the victory in Bremen.

Thomas Tuchel: "We made a very bright start, particularly in the first 15 minutes. But during that spell we missed the opportunity to add a second directly after taking the lead. Then we were careless in letting Bremen get back into the game and allowed the match to open up. For the rest of the game we failed to see through a lot of chances – big chances too – and as a result we were never truly comfortable. That's really irritating. Of course, in the end the overall feeling is happiness at having ground out the victory. The injuries mean we simply haven't got enough training time behind us yet. Perhaps we just need a few more positive results like today to make things easier for ourselves. I promised myself before the match that I would be happy if we won – no matter how. We came here to win. So I'm simply going to enjoy it."

Roman Weidenfeller: "The momentum swung back and forth in the match. We should've really seen out the win more calmly towards the end but that didn't quite work out. Ultimately we're just happy that we got the victory. We have now picked up the first three points of the New Year. That marks the start of our catch-up mission."

"The ten men showed spirit"

Clemens Fritz: "We could've picked up points today if we had defended better. We were asleep for the first 15 minutes but after that we battled until the end and showed spirit with ten men. Ultimately, though, it wasn't enough to get anything from the game." (djg)
