André Schürrle and Julian Weigl shared their thoughts on the Benfica clash with sky after the final whistle. Both were annoyed with BVB's defeat given their superiority on the pitch. "Luck just wasn't on our side," said Weigl. Here we bring you the match reactions.

André Schürrle: "We should have won tonight. We were the better footballing side. In the first half in particular, we were very good, moved the ball about very well and had some excellent opportunities to score. We should have actually won the game given that we had a penalty too. That makes the defeat even tougher to take. It just didn't happen for us in front of goal. Sometimes it's like that. But we still have the return leg; we'll win that and make it through, I'm sure of it."

"We actually produced a top performance"

Julian Weigl: "We could and should have taken much, much more from the game. There were so many chances for us. We actually produced a top performance. We had the opposition under control, we had the possession and we repeatedly created chances to score. We were also unlucky regarding the incident involving Ousmane Dembélé. That should have been a red card and a penalty. But even without that, we should have won this game 2-0, 3-0 or perhaps 3-1. A 1-0 loss is not the best result ahead of the second leg. On the other hand, it's by no means over. We will be playing in our stadium, where we're always capable of getting a good result. Nonetheless, this evening obviously hurts and is extremely annoying. Luck simply wasn't on our side."

"In the end we were slightly lucky to win"

Kostas Mitroglou (Benfica forward): "Dortmund played very well. They moved the ball about superbly. But we put in a good showing too, even if the victory was a bit lucky in the end. We didn't have many chances, but we took one of them. That's how it is in the Champions League: you need to convert the first chance. And we managed that tonight." (djg)
