Borussia won 5-1 earlier this term.

The scenario: It's fourth versus 14th. Ten places and 12 points separate the 2015 and 2016 runners-up in the table. BVB have won all three of their matches against Wolfsburg under Thomas Tuchel's stewardship, including emphatic 5-1 victories in the last two encounters.

Home/away: BVB have won three of their last four home games and are now unbeaten in their last 30 Bundesliga matches at Signal Iduna Park. The last home defeat came at the hands of Bayern Munich (1-0) on 4 April 2015. The Black and Yellows have only failed to find the net in one of their last 14 outings on home turf. Wolfsburg might have won only one of their last four away games (2-1 in Gladbach on 20 December 2016), but they have already picked up 11 points on their travels. That's almost double the tally they had at the same stage last season (six).

Personnel matters: Wolfsburg are without Azzaoui (torn cruciate ligament), Guilavogui (calf injury), Möbius (adductor problems) and Osimhen (knee injury). Thomas Tuchel will provide updates on BVB's personnel situation at a press conference at 18:00 CET today.

Record: In the history of the Bundesliga, only Bayern Munich have racked up more victories (30) and scored more goals (90) against VfL Wolfsburg than Borussia Dortmund (21 and 81). The men from Lower Saxony have also squandered a 1-0 lead against BVB more often than any other club (three draws, four defeats). Borussia have scored at least once in each of their last 15 Bundesliga meetings with Wolfsburg and racked up 40 goals in those games. At Signal Iduna Park BVB have only lost one of their last eight home games against VfL, who have only kept a clean sheet in Dortmund once (0-0 on 30 November 2008). Only in Dortmund and Frankfurt have the Wolves conceded five penalties.

Statistics: The Black and Yellows have already drawn more often (seven times) than they did in the entirety of last season (six). But only Munich and Hoffenheim have suffered fewer defeats. And only Bayern (45) have more goals to their name than Borussia (40). However, that is still considerably fewer goals than at the same stage of last season (52). Wolfsburg have scored a far below-average 19 goals this term (ten fewer than at the same stage last season) and have lost four matches from leading positions (no other team in the division has squandered more leads).

Biggest home victory: BVB have previously beaten VfL at home by a four-goal margin on four occasions, the most recent of which was a 5-1 win on 30 April 2016. Goals from Kagawa (7), Ramos (9), Reus (59) and an Aubameyang brace within 60 seconds (78, 79) made it 5-0, before Schürrle (86) grabbed a consolation goal for the Wolves.

Attendance: There will be 56,906 spectators at Signal Iduna Park. 24,454 places in the South Stand will be unoccupied as a result of the DFB verdict. The 1,700 fans who will be making the journey from Wolfsburg will be sitting in the North East corner in blocks 56 and 59.

Referee: 47-year-old Günter Perl from Munich is overseeing his 25th BVB game. The last came exactly one year ago, when Borussia beat Hannover 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park.

Suspension looming: Dortmund's Sokratis and Ousmane Dembélé currently have four yellow cards each and are one away from a suspension.
