The scenario: BVB have lost only one of their previous ten league games and, with a tally of 13 points since the winter break, are second only to Bayern Munich (14) in 2017. Bayer currently sit in eighth, with nine victories, three draws and ten defeats this season.

Home/away: Borussia Dortmund have won four of their previous five away games and are unbeaten in 31 matches at Signal Iduna Park. Only two teams have won away more often than Leverkusen, who have four victories on the road and are seventh in the away league table.

Personnel matters: Thomas Tuchel will report on the personnel situation at 14:00 CET today. Leverkusen will be without Tah (fibre tear) and Calhanoglu (CAS verdict).

Head-to-head: Both teams have won on 27 occasions, while there have also been 21 draws between the pair. Both teams have scored more than 100 goals (BVB 107, Bayer 110). Dortmund have never lost at home to Leverkusen after taking the lead and last conceded a penalty to the Werkself on home turf 27 years ago, Michael Zorc slotting home the equaliser from the spot to secure a 1-1 draw on 23 November 1989. Leverkusen have only been beaten more times away to Bayern than they have in Dortmund (18).

Statistics: Only Bayern Munich (54) have scored more goals than the 46 of Borussia Dortmund, who have only conceded more than twice on one occasion in the current campaign. Leverkusen's 34 goals are above the Bundesliga average of 30. However, their 32 goals conceded is considerably more than at the same stage last season (23).

Biggest home win: There have been four 3-0 wins. The first came on Matchday 23 of the 1983/84 season, when Erdal Keser, Bernd Klotz and Jürgen Wegmann got the goals.

Referee: 36-year-old Christian Dingert from Lebecksmühle is taking charge of a Bundesliga match involving Borussia Dortmund for the seventh time. All of them have ended in victory for the Black and Yellows so far. Dingert referees for TSG Burg Lichtenberg in the South-West German Football Association and has been a Bundesliga official since 2010.

Attendance: The last 420 away tickets can be bought by Leverkusen fans on Saturday from 13:00 CET at the away box office in front of the North-East Stand. Otherwise the match is sold out.
