It was a happy BVB camp following their last-16 success. "All in all, we really deserved to make it into the next round. I said to Auba after the first leg: You'll decide the second leg – and that's exactly what happened," said Michael Zorc. We bring you the match reactions.

Michael Zorc: "The first quarter of an hour was outstanding, then we got a little bit nervous, didn't play so well, lost our sense of security a bit and made a few too many mistakes. After the break we increased our performance level again and got the goals at the right time. Great goals too! All in all, we really deserved to make it into the next round. I said to Auba after the first leg: You'll decide the second leg – and that's exactly what happened!"

Thomas Tuchel: "We made a super start to the match. Then, after about 25 minutes, we lost our way a little bit. The second half was a fantastic 45 minutes in which we got the goals we deserved. For Auba, today was the perfect time to get his hat-trick. Now we've reached the last eight and we want to get even further."

Christian Pulisic: "It was my first-ever Champions League goal and probably the most important one I've scored to date. It was an incredible, amazing feeling."

Gonzalo Castro: "After taking the lead in the first period, we stopped to think too much. But in the second half we showed the right response. We performed well over the entire duration. Benfica had hardly any chances to score. We never gave the opposition much room for manoeuvre. We're well on track to getting where we want to be."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: "Tonight was absolutely fantastic. After the first leg I was very sad and really unsatisfied with my performance. I made a lot of mistakes throughout that match. So I wanted to show my team-mates today that I'm capable of much more. I'm very happy that we won and that we made it through."

Julian Weigl: "We're very happy with the result. It could've been the same in the first leg, based on the balance of play. We knew that after losing 1-0 in Lisbon it wouldn't be easy. We warmed ourselves up a bit and boosted self-confidence for this one in the last few games in the Bundesliga. We were functioning very well from the start and knew that we would have chances to score. Fortunately, we took advantage of them. Now we're very happy that we managed to get through at home."

Marcel Schmelzer: "We couldn't have envisaged it going much better. We created a lot of pressure from the beginning, played well and then took an early lead. Obviously we dropped off a little bit after that. But you have to take into consideration that it's a Champions League last-16 tie. You don't always have the opposition where you want them. That's why it was important that we came out of the changing rooms like that after the interval. The margin of victory is deserved too." (djg)
