Thomas Tuchel: "I'm very happy because it was a very difficult match. The pitch was difficult to play on, the opposition performed very well too. In fact, it all went as we expected. Particularly in the opening minutes it was tough. We didn't want to let that get to us and we managed that. From the 25th minute onwards we had a better grip on the game and in the second half we were in control. After taking the lead we had to score the second goal to give ourselves that bit of security. We managed that as well. I'd like to pay a big compliment to my team. My players recognised that rather than just being about individual quality, it was about attitude, character and team spirit. That was crucial and that's why we won."

Gonzalo Castro: "It couldn't have really gone much better. We won 3-0, now we need to dust ourselves down and start preparing for the semi-final against Bayern. Lotte are a good team, but we were well prepared. We weren't looking to pick up any prizes for attractive football, we just wanted to get through. That's why we adapted our style of play to the pitch conditions. We knew that Lotte would come racing out of the blocks in the first 20 minutes, but we were also aware that that would play into our hands if we didn't concede a goal in that time. In the end we took the lead through an excellent counter-attack in the second half. That was the key moment of the match."

Marcel Schmelzer: "At the weekend we conceded a free-kick on the side the goalkeeper was standing, so for my goal I just thought: 'Let's just give it a try'. At the start we needed some time to get into the game. We knew it would be difficult. I think that we produced a very good performance, particularly in the second period. We didn't make any major errors, which was very important because we knew things would get very tough if we fell behind."

Michael Zorc: "There's a real sense of relief. It was a difficult match, and the match being cancelled two weeks ago didn't help. We had everything to lose. We were a little bit off the pace in the first quarter of an hour. Lotte had a half-chance that they didn't manage to convert. After that we had the game under better control. The performance in the second half was good and we got more into the game, then scored the goals. Lotte were in it, they believed they could cause an upset. But we can be satisfied with our performance."

"In the first half our tactics worked well"

Ismael Atalan: "Of course I'm disappointed. We went out there to win. And in the first period our tactics worked really well. If we had scored the first major chance we had, Dortmund might well have become nervous. In the end it's obviously difficult to keep a team of such quality at arm's length for the whole 90 minutes." (djg)
