Coach Daniel Farke had warned in the run-up to his side's Matchday 25 clash with Wuppertaler SV that it would be a "thankless task" – and he was very much proven right as BVB II suffered their first defeat of the Regional League season on Friday evening, losing 1-0 (1-0) following an action-packed 90 minutes at the Stadion am Zoo.

Despite dominating the opening stages, the visitors got off to an unfortunate start when Silvio Pagago headed WSV in front from a Gaetano Manno cross in the 14th minute. At the other end Jonas Arweiler struck the Wuppertaler crossbar from a narrow angle, before Hamadi Al Ghaddioui missed from close range (25).

In the second period the 3,297 fans in Wuppertal watched on as BVB continued to dominate while simultaneously struggling to carve out any real chances of note. The hosts, meanwhile, spurned the opportunity to double their advantage when Tim Bodenröder was denied by Hendrik Bonmann from point-blank range (56). The Black and Yellows ultimately ran out of time, as WSV defended passionately to pull off an unlikely win.

With Viktoria Köln not in action until Sunday, when they travel to Alemannia Aachen, the table remains unchanged for now: BVB still sit in second spot, three points behind the league leaders. The pair will face off in a top-of-the-table clash at the Rote Erde Stadion next weekend (25 March, 14:00 CET), before which Farke's charges will play their game in hand in Siegen on Tuesday (19:30 CET). (fg)
