"There was more in it for us today," said Gonzalo Castro following the Ruhr derby – a sentiment echoed by his team-mates Roman Bürki and Felix Passlack, as well as BVB coach Thomas Tuchel. Here we bring you the match reactions.

Thomas Tuchel: "We controlled the game for a long time by dominating possession. Schalke defended very compactly but even in the first half, we created some good chances to score. After the interval we went one better and took a deserved lead, but in the period after the goal we missed a number of chances and then conceded the equaliser. It was ultimately an emotional and intense match, and we obviously had a bit of luck that the referee did not give a penalty against us for handball."

Roman Bürki: "We had the better of the chances, there was another one-on-one with Fährmann at one point I think, so it was a shame we didn't capitalise. I think that we just about had the upper hand in the game and were the slightly better team if you factor out the final few minutes. Obviously getting a draw doesn't make you feel great when you were previously in the lead."

Felix Passlack: "Personally I struggled to get into the game but I think I improved as the match progressed. We should've scored again after the opener. We had the chances to add a second and if we'd done so, the game would've probably been in the bag. A win would've kept us in third, but as it is we've now dropped down to fourth. In the next few weeks we will simply need to take maximum points and hope the teams around us slip up."

Gonzalo Castro: "There was more in it for us today. We had the better of the chances, particularly in the second period. We missed the chance to add a second and kill the game. As a result the game remained open, and then we conceded a stupid goal towards the end. We need to work on being more clinical with our chances."

"We fought back and got the equaliser"

Markus Weinzierl (Schalke 04 coach): "We defended well in the opening 45 minutes. After the interval we had our first very good chance, but then conceded a goal on the counter-attack. Fortunately we fought back and got the equaliser. Then, in the closing stages of what was a hectic match, we almost managed to nab the victory."

Guido Burgstaller (Schalke 04 player): "If luck had gone our way at the end we might've got a penalty for handball or for when I was held back, but we'll have to live with a 1-1 draw."
