"We were more dominant in the second period and took a deserved lead, but missed a number of chances to get the second goal that would've wrapped the game up," said Thomas Tuchel after the 150th Ruhr derby with Schalke, which ended 1-1.

Thomas Tuchel on the balance of play:
It was a match we controlled for long periods, with lots of possession, but it was difficult to up the tempo because Schalke defended very intensively and very compactly. In some situations we took too long to find appropriate solutions. We were more dominant in the second period and took a deserved lead, but missed a number of chances to get the second goal that would've wrapped the game up."

...on missed chances:
It speaks volumes that when perhaps one of the biggest chances of the match came his way, Auba got his head up and tried to square the ball across. It shows he doesn't just think about his own goal tally. Unfortunately it didn't quite come off, but if he'd gone alone and got his shot wrong, everyone would've said he should've passed. Ousmane's effort when he hit the post was a very accurate and focused shot. It was a matter of centimetres, with the ball bouncing off the inside of the post and back across the goal."

...on Schalke's equaliser:
It was unfortunate that Schmelle picked up an injury and we had to defend two corner kicks without him. We conceded the equaliser from the second of those. When you concede an equaliser having previously missed two chances to score, it gets to you. We were asking ourselves how it was 1-1. The crowd responded and it became a very emotional and intensive battle in which anything could happen. We got a little bit of luck towards the end that the referee didn't blow for handball. It wasn't a clear-cut penalty, but you see them given.

...on Aubameyang's mask celebration:
I don't believe any element of his celebration was arrogant. If anything, he was a little bit careless in getting booked. In derby games, special celebrations are part and parcel of it all. It wasn't a celebration against Schalke 04; it was just about Auba enjoying the moment with the fans.

...on the injury to Marcel Schmelzer:
He turned unfortunately in a challenge and could feel it in his back afterwards. There was too much pain. If I had to guess right now, I'd say that it's going to be very tight for Tuesday.
