Despite falling behind early on, HSV held their own and the game remained open – partly because top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spurned many chances before scoring with the last attack of the game. This season only Bayern Munich (on Matchday 11) have had more shots in Dortmund (18) than HSV did tonight (16). Here we bring you the match facts.

Fortress: Borussia Dortmund have now gone exactly two years and 34 matches since they last lost a home game in the Bundesliga. There have only been four longer such runs in the history of the German top flight.

Early goal: The Black and Yellows once again lived up to their reputation as the Bundesliga's quick-starters. They have now scored 13 goals in the opening 15 minutes of matches.

Personal record: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang notched up his 25th goal of the season, equalling his tally for the previous campaign and moving ahead of Robert Lewandowski at the top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts. Tonight was his eighth goal in eight games against HSV – Aubameyang has not scored more often against any other club. It was also the second time he has captained the team, with the last time he pulled on the armband coming on Matchday 8 in Ingolstadt when both Marcel Schmelzer and Marco Reus were absent.

Long-range: Before Gonzalo Castro's opener, BVB were the only team in the Bundesliga that had not managed a long-range goal this season. Castro has scored more goals against HSV (five) than he has against any other Bundesliga side.

Free-kick: Castro scored his first-ever direct free-kick in the Bundesliga at the 37th attempt. It was BVB's first such goal in the league since Marco Reus scored against Köln on Matchday 34 last season.

First Bundesliga goal of the campaign: Having already got four goals in the DFB Cup (two) and UEFA Champions League (two), Shinji Kagawa finally found the net in the league. It was the Japan international's first Bundesliga goal since netting against Wolfsburg almost a year ago.
