"We started brightly, played very well for the first ten minutes and curiously found ourselves 2-0 down from Bayern's first two shots," said Thomas Tuchel, who admitted that both the defeat and the scoreline were deserved.

Thomas Tuchel on the balance of play:
"All in all, there was no way of competing with Bayern at that level today. We started brightly, played very well for the first ten minutes and curiously found ourselves 2-0 down from Bayern's first two shots. That made the task we were facing extremely difficult, especially in view of our personnel situation, and turned the game in a direction that it was more or less impossible to reverse."

...on the goals conceded directly after missing chances to score:
"We continued to perform well enough and pulled a goal back. But when we conceded the third the game was all but over. We did have a huge chance to score through Aubameyang, but the ball was hacked away off the line. Overall, we spent a lot of time chasing the ball and no longer had our usual sparkle. The defeat is very bitter."

...on not getting the rub of the green:
"Our situation was already complicated enough going into this one, and then the match didn't really go in our favour either. We deserved to lose heavily. We would have needed to be on top form with a fully-fit squad to compete at that level."

...on the substitution of Gonzalo Castro:
"He had to come off with an adductor problem."

...on the personnel situation ahead of Tuesday's meeting with Monaco:
"We're hoping to have Julian Weigl and Shinji Kagawa back. And I think that Lukasz Piszczek, whom we rested today, will be able to play. Going through the others individually makes little sense at this stage."
