World Cup-winner and Olympic Silver medallist Matthias Ginter has been called up by Germany coach Joachim Löw to take part in the Confederations Cup between 17 June and 2 July. Julian Weigl, André Schürrle and Mario Götze, however, will miss the tournament in Russia due to illness or injury.

Furthermore, Löw has opted not to include Marco Reus. "I have spoken to Marco Reus at length over the last week and decided that it's important for him to wind down once the Cup final is over. While I would very much like to have him at the tournament, I have to consider the risk that it would involve. The tournament would have placed a strain on him, he has had to battle back from scratch following injury on several occasions this season. He was very downbeat when he missed the tournaments in 2014 and 2016," the Germany coach was quoted as saying on dfb.de. (br)
