Maximilian Philipp is the fourth new signing after Ömer Toprak (Bayer Leverkusen), Mahmoud Dahoud (Bor. Mönchengladbach) and Dan-Axel Zagadou (Paris St. Germain) to transfer to Borussia Dortmund from SC Freiburg for the coming season.

The 23 year old attacking midfielder has signed a five year contract with the German Cup winner and Champions League participant until the 30. June, 2022. Sporting Director Michael Zorc said: „we are happy that we have secured the transfer of Maximilian Philipp, who is highly sought after both here in Germany and abroad. He is versatile and can play as an attacking midfielder, he has a good shot and he has a fantastic future ahead of him.“

 

Maximilian Philipp who is currently with the U21 national side preparing for the U21 EURO from the 16. to the 30. June in Poland and who will join BVB about three weeks after the last game of the tournament said: „BVB is one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is an honour for me to be able to play here. I think that at the age of 23 years old I am mature and old enough take this step. I want to develop as a player in Dortmund.“ He is already very much looking forward to the ’Yellow Wall‘: „this really frightens the opponents. I am now looking forward to playing for these fans and having their full support behind me.“

 

The 1.84m player who comes from Berlin has played for Sport-Club Freiburg since January 2013. He made his Bundesliga debut in April 2014. All in all he played 81 Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga games for Freiburg, scoring 18 goals and setting up 17 goals. He made 24 first team appearances in the Bundesliga last season (9 goals, 3 assists).
