DFB Cup winners Borussia Dortmund have come to an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach for the immediate sale of defender Matthias Ginter to their North Rhine-Westphalian neighbours.

The 23-year-old made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Black and Yellows last season, including the DFB Cup final victory in Berlin (2-1 against Frankfurt). His contract in Dortmund was set to expire in 2019.

"Matthias Ginter came to us and expressed his desire to leave due to the competition for places in defence. We decided to grant him that wish. We would like to thank him expressly for his commitment at BVB and wish him nothing but the best for his future professional endeavours," said BVB Sporting Director Michael Zorc.

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
