Borussia Dortmund's blind football team took on their FC Schalke counterparts in the derby on Sunday, winning what proved to be an exciting game 2-0.

Before Borussia Dortmund's blind footballers took on FC Schalke in the derby on Matchday 3 of their Bundesliga campaign, the tension and excitement within the BVB camp were clear for all to see. With Sabine Poschmann, the member of the Bundestag for Dortmund, who gave a quick welcome speech after both teams had made their way onto the pitch, and BVB managing director Carsten Cramer, who had only returned from the USA with the senior squad that morning, watching on, a fair but very hard-fought match ensued in front of the 500-strong crowd.

New signing Andrey Tikhonov showed further proof of his attacking qualities as he scored both BVB goals to secure what was the second derby victory of the season. The 19-year-old opened the scoring with a spectacular strike from 11 metres out that left Schalke shot-stopper Daniel Soldanski with absolutely no chance. The Black & Yellows had beaten the Royal Blues in the reverse fixture just a few weeks earlier, with Tikonov again proving the difference between the sides as BVB beat their local rivals 1-0.
