The table said it all heading into this Kreisliga Matchday 7 clash between the table-topping BVB women and bottom-of-the-pile Lüner SV. And the difference on paper manifested itself on the pitch too, with the Black & Yellows running out 12-0 (8-0) winners in their final league game of the year to keep them comfortably in pole position.

Watched by an excellent home crowd of 519 spectators at Stadion Rote Erde, the Black & Yellows set the tone from the beginning and pinned Lüner SV back deep into their own half. The first promising opportunity came after six minutes and fell to Hannah Goosmann, whose attempt was thwarted by opposition goalie Sarah-Michelle Martin. Almost two minutes later, BVB left-winger Annika Herbig missed as well and another good chance went begging.

But the floodgates eventually opened on the 17-minute mark as Carolin Kaul deservedly made it 1-0 with a shot on the turn that found the corner of the net. Chances followed on a minutely basis, but a lack of precise finishing saw Hannah Goosmann spurn three good opportunities in succession to extend the advantage. But the second goal did come in the 25th minute courtesy of an own goal, with Goosmann then finding the net only seconds later to make it 3-0. Herbig upped the lead to 4-0 on the half-hour mark, converting Laura Höhl's perfect cross from a matter of metres.

From that point on until the break, BVB had it much easier: Goosmann teed up Kaul, whose composed finish made it 5-0 on 33 minutes. And even though the visitors from Lünen fought back with all their might and attempted to make a mark with bold forays forward of their own – mostly via attacker Sema Nur Kaya – it was still Dortmund scoring the goals. Caroline Kaul completed her hat-trick with a 37th-minute strike to make it 6-0 before the interval. Herbig added a seventh only three minutes later. Höhl then followed up her excellent assist for the fourth with a goal of her own in the 42th minute to round off the first-half scoring at 8-0.

As had been the case in the opening half, the Borussia Dortmund women initially suffered from a lack of precise finishing after the break. Until the 51st minute at least, when Herbig completed her hat-trick with a lovely volley to make it 9-0. Ann-Katrin Lau, who had only come off the bench four minutes earlier, then took the scoring into double digits with a shot from close range that left Lünen goalie Martin no chance (64). The 11th goal came from a cross by winger Annika Fälker that Hannah Goosmann spectacularly converted on the volley (70). Lau then added another from a corner shortly before the end to complete the 12-0 rout (84).

And things may have become even more gruesome for Lünen this Halloween had goalkeeper Martin not kept out a number of shots with strong saves. "She made good saves, she performed well. Compliments on that and to the opposition, who never gave up," said BVB head coach Thomas Sulewski after the final whistle in praise of the busy Lünen shot-stopper and her team-mates. Next up for the BVB women is a cup tie against SF Ay Yildiz Derne, which will be played this Tuesday (20:30 CET) at the BVB Evonik Football Academy. "We want to reach the next round, even if the strain is already rather high," said Sulewski after the final whistle in reference to the game against fellow Kreisliga opposition. Sulewski's team won 6-0 in Derne only a few weeks ago, a result which bodes well for the upcoming cup clash.
