The players joined in as chants of "Kreisliga-Meister ist nur der BVB" (Only BVB are Kreisliga champions) rang out from the stands after the final whistle. The cause for celebration? The Borussia Dortmund women's team, only founded last summer, had claimed a first title in the first year of their existence. The 6-0 (2-0) triumph against closest challengers SF Ay Yildiz Derne means the Black & Yellows can no longer be ousted from top spot in Dortmund Kreisliga A Group 2.

The promotion play-off against the winner from Group 1 will take place on 25 May. "I'm proud and happy we were able to convert our first match point," said BVB head of department Svenja Schlenker, adding: "We're going to go out for food this evening, then our focus will turn to the cup and promotion play-off."

The conditions were outstanding: bright sunshine for long spells and a 665-strong crowd made for a harmonious atmosphere at the Brackel training ground. The game got off to a lively start, with no signs of nervousness on the part of the champions. Annika Billig tried her luck around the five-minute mark but fired her shot over the Ay-Yildiz goal. Three minutes later, Ana Zabell entered the penalty area and was brought down by Nadire Özkaya – penalty! Vanessa Heim stepped up and fired the ball into the net (8). Heim immediately added a second following a corner, firing a shot from inside the penalty area that left Derne goalkeeper Sabrina Köplin with no chance – 2-0! The visitors then tried to hit back quickly though the Dortmund goal did not come under serious threat. On the contrary, winger Ann-Katrin Lau had the next good opportunity but could not get enough power behind her shot. The Black & Yellows remained the dominant team in the ensuing minutes, moving the ball around in a focused manner and stepping up the tempo at the right moment. The only thing missing was accuracy – whether it was the final pass or an attempt from distance. With no further goals, the team took in a deserved two-goal lead at the interval.

The second period began with two-goal salvo: captain Lisa Klemann latched on to a dream pass by Heim and fired home to make it 3-0. Provider Heim then turned goalscorer only a minute later, completing her hat-trick to make it 4-0. Carolin Kaul soon increased the lead to 5-0 from close range (55). The margin by which they led was also deserved; BVB had the game under control and were coasting towards the league title. Marina Jung could have added another after about an hour but failed to beat Köplin in the opposition goal from the penalty spot. There was further cause for celebration in the 68th minute as substitute Hannah Goosman slotted the ball past Köplin to make it 6-0. The Black & Yellows had everything under control and could have further extended the lead through another substitute, Annika Herbig, in what was ultimately a highly deserved and comfortable win. "We have overcome the first obstacle – now we want to win the promotion play-off," Klemann said shortly after the final whistle.
