Borussia Dortmund’s Under-23 side, strengthened with BVB’s non-international players, suffered a 2-1 (1-1) defeat at the hands of SC Paderborn in a training match arranged at short notice on Tuesday. The most important news: Lukasz Piszczek is back!

Exactly 178 days after his last game for BVB – the Champions League final against FC Bayern Munich (1-2) on 25 May – and two operations on his hip and groin, Lukasz Piszczek was back in action on Tuesday afternoon – and he came through the game without any problems!

Here’s a quick recap of the training match: Borussia took the lead after 16 minutes when, after good work from guest player Manuel Friedrich, Julian Schieber lashed home an unstoppable effort that gave Paderborn’s goalkeeper Daniel Lück little chance, while former Borusse Uwe Hünemeyer got the second division side on level terms with a header on 25 minutes. In a second half dominated by substitutions and tactical experiments, Fabian Scheffer scored the winning goal for Paderborn with a clever shot on 58 minutes, with Marvin Ducksch (83 mins.) and Schieber (88) both having decent chances to equalise for BVB.

The few Borussia Dortmund players not on international duty used the game to stay in rhythm during the international break.
