Borussia Dortmund’s players and officials were disappointed after the defeat to Leverkusen and admitted that Bayer deserved to win. “There was no real tempo in our game and our tackling was not good either” said Roman Weidenfeller, with Dr. Reinhard Rauball, Robert Lewandowski, Sokratis and Jonas Hofmann also sharing their thoughts on the game.

Roman Weidenfeller: “Looking at the how the game went, we deserved to lose. We started brightly and passed the ball around well, but got worse as the game went on. There was no real tempo in our game, our tackling was not good either and we also had problems in the air, and that’s why we dropped the points.”

Reinhard Rauball: “Leverkusen played a great away game in the first half. They were well prepared and as a consequence we never got our game going. You could count our chances on one hand, and that’s not enough to beat a team like Bayer Leverkusen.”

Robert Lewandowski: “We didn’t play well and deserved to lose. We are currently in a very difficult situation. A lot of players are injured, and another two have been added to that list today. But we must not bury our heads in the sand and forget about the defeat. We have a very important game in the Champions League on Wednesday and we need to focus on it.”

Sokratis: “The yellow/red card was definitely my mistake. I should’ve checked myself more in this situation. But I think you should also show understanding for the players. In the final 10 minutes we had a lot of disruptions and there was probably only one minute of normal play. That’s why I was so annoyed, but it still shouldn’t have happened.”

Jonas Hofmann: “We definitely lacked conviction, and were too careless outside and inside the box. When you play like that you lose against a team as strong as Leverkusen. We need to get that game out of our heads as we have an at least equally important one on Wednesday against Marseille.”
