Roman Weidenfeller was very relieved after BVB’s 2-1 win at Braunschweig. “It was a dirty win,” Borussia Dortmund’s No. 1 admitted. “We know that we didn’t play well. But we can build on this win!”

After his teammates missed a number of clear-cut opportunities, Weidenfeller was lucky to see Braunschweig’s last-minute effort come back off the woodwork. “We won, and that’s what’s important. Braunschweig gave their all to avoid defeat.”

Weidenfeller still wasn’t entirely happy. “There are a few things we need to improve on. We still make mistakes or have lapses of concentration, and we will need to work on this.”

The return of Mats Hummels was described as “very important” by the Dortmund goalkeeper. “Mats is a vital part of the team. We were able to work the ball forward from the back much better.” And up front they had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. “He is very important for us with a pace,“ said Weidenfeller. “It allows us to play long balls up the field.” In his opinion, BVB had “passed sideways too often” in the previous games.
