After BVB’s comprehensive win over Eintracht Frankfurt, the goal-scorers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski were happy to talk to the press in the mixed zone.

“Auba“, with three goals against Frankfurt, this week couldn’t have ended any better, could it? And Robert, it was evident that you were pleased to score again. How happy are the two of you about scoring these goals?

Lewandowski: I’m very happy that in my fifth game against Frankfurt I finally managed to score against them. The games against Eintracht are always difficult. Today’s game was tough as well, even if it finished ended in a comprehensive 4-0 victory. We put in a very, very good performance.

Aubameyang: It really has been a great week for me. But it’s currently going really well for both me and the team. It’s important for me that the team is successful. I’m even more happy when I’m able to contribute something to it.

BVB’s goal at the start of the second half of the season was to regain second place in the table. That seems possible again. Have you rediscovered your old verve?

Lewandowski: “We must continue to play as well as against Frankfurt, then that goal is possible. It was a good game from us. We have to keep on playing the way we are doing now.

Aubameyang: We have become closer as a team, with our on-going injury concerns also playing a role. We had to go through a difficult phase in December when we suffered disappointing defeats. That has brought us closer together. With the confidence we have gained from this run of wins, we can go into the next games now much more relaxed.

It was BVB’s first home win in four games. How important was it for the team?

Lewandowski: Very important. We were eager to get three points and we are very happy that we managed to do that. To win here at our own ground is very important for the team, and, of course, it’s always of great importance for our fans.

“Auba“, you’re not only doing a great job in attack, you’ve also improved your defensive play a lot in the last couple of months. Have you now fully arrived at BVB?

Aubameyang: Yes, that’s true. It’s, of course, always nice to score goals. But first and foremost I want to implement what the coach tells me to do. We’ve used the tactic board a lot in the last few weeks, and the coaching staff talked a lot with me and explained a lot of things. I always want to improve and I think I’m on the right track.

The two of you are competing for the top scorer’s crown. Do you push each other?

Lewandowski:  Together we are uncatchable. It’s great to see that Auba is scoring so many goals as well. It’s good for the team, and also good for me. We have great attacking players, but – as seen today – also a great defence.

Aubameyang: It’s a great thing. But in the end, it doesn’t matter who scores the goal. When a team has two good goal-scorers, it becomes more difficult to figure them out. Having a teammate like Robert is an extra motivation.
