“We didn’t deserve to win by this margin,” said Hamburg coach Mirko Slomka after his side’s 3-0 win over BVB. That said, there is no doubt that the right team won on Saturday. Jürgen Klopp called HSV’s victory “well-deserved ”, and something “we brought on ourselves.”

Jürgen Klopp: “Congratulations to HSV for a well-deserved victory which we brought on ourselves. Mirko has given his side confidence and a tactical system. They didn’t go off to a flying start, but they stood well, closed down the space and were lucky to face a side that played at the same pace without making an effort to increase it. It was a cagey game before HSV scored a goal for which we only have ourselves to blame. We wanted to change everything at half-time. We switched our system and were more lively. Hamburg battled hard. We battled hard as well, but couldn’t find our rhythm. Even after the second goal we could have turned the game in our favour, but in the end we really didn’t deserve to get a result here. It was not a great performance from us.”

Mirko Slomka: “We didn’t deserve to win by this margin. Borussia Dortmund had a lot of chances, and caused us problems with their quick players. We played well defensively for most of the game, but we were also lucky. We scored at the right times, and in a way Borussia Dortmund usually do. My team can be proud. We will work hard and hopefully manage to move up another place in the table.”
