Sunday's match will be his 117th as a Bundesliga referee and his ninth involving Borussia Dortmund. Christian Dingert (38) from Lebecksmühle will be in charge as Bayer Leverkusen are the visitors to Dortmund. Tobias Christ and Timo Gerach will provide assistance from the sidelines. Guido Kleve is the fourth official. 

Dingert is the referee for TSG Burg Lichtenberg, a club in the football association of South-West Germany. He has been a DFB referee since 2002. The first of his 116 matches officiated in the Bundesliga so far was on 12 September 2010, with 1. FC Cologne and FC St. Pauli the two sides involved (kicker magazine gave him a rating of 1.5). He has taken charge of a total of eight matches involving BVB, the last of them taking place in January 2018 - a 1-1 draw away in Berlin. He has been the referee for a BVB - Bayer encounter once before: a 6-2 home win for the Black and Yellows on 4 March 2017.
