Borussia Dortmund have been drawn to play Real Madrid in the last eight of the Champions League. It’s a re-run of last year’s semi-final, with the first leg being held at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, 2 April, and the second leg at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, 8 April.

“Real are even stronger than last season, also in terms of the squad,” said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc, referring to Real’s summer transfer Gareth Bale who signed for the club for a reported fee of 91 million euros.

Borussia Dortmund see themselves as the underdogs in this quarter-final tie, especially with Robert Lewandowski missing the first leg through suspension. “Maybe the players still have the games of last season in the back of their minds,” said Zorc. BVB faced Real Madrid four times in last year’s competition, with the Bundesliga side winning two, losing one and drawing one as well as progressing past them at the semi-final stage.
