Marco Reus scored three goals against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday and almost single-handedly led his team to victory. In an interview after the match, he said, “We know now that we also have what it takes to come from behind, even when trailing by two goals.”

What’s your view on the game?

We were playing a side with practically no confidence, and then we helped Stuttgart regain it by inviting them to score two goals in the opening 20 minutes. Their second goal was like a wake-up call for us as we played a lot better after it and in the end also picked up a deserved win.

Why was it so difficult to play Stuttgart?

It has always been difficult to play in Stuttgart. The signs were actually quite good heading into this match as we came here with a lot of confidence while Stuttgart had been out of form. But unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of it, but the longer the match went on, the better we got. And our efforts were rewarded with three goals.

How important is this win with regard to the match against Real Madrid?

Regardless of the game against Real, it was important for us to build up confidence. We know now that we also have what it takes to come from behind, even when trailing by two goals.
