The 09 countdown to the cup final - every day a new chapter of BVB’s DFB Cup history. Here’s the sixth one, with WDR reporter Matthias Bongard asking himself the question: “Stadium or church?”

This time I’m not going to make my prediction before 9.50 pm on May 17th as it currently changes every day. And I suspect it will stay that way until the day of the final.

Where I’m going to watch the game is a question that’s been plaguing me since the day we reached the final. My son’s confirmation ceremony is on Sunday morning and I haven’t decided yet whether to travel to Berlin and skip the family celebration (and risk being disinherited!) or stay in Dortmund and watch the game with the entire family coming from everywhere, with me being the only BVB fan. I’m dreading both. So, it’s a real life changing question: stadium or church?

In the Bundesliga winning campaign of 2011/12 I didn’t go to watch in single league match as it is empirically proven that the team is more successful when I’m not around. And out of nowhere I received an invitation to the final in Berlin. I went and was very afraid I would be the one blamed for a loss, with the entire BVB stand pointing the finger at me after the final whistle. But I learned something that night: the cup seems to have its own rules. And that brings us back to the second and first dilemma: if I travel to Berlin, we will win 5-2 or so!
