The German national team, in drawing their second last warm-up game ahead of the World Cup with Cameroon 2-2 (0-0), displayed plenty of positives but also a few negatives. Borussia Dortmund had four players in the starting eleven, Roman Weidenfeller, Erik Durm, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus.

Kevin Großkreutz was on the bench whilst Marcel Schmelzer was unavailable for selection owing to a knee injury.

Erik Durm ensured that his debut was at one and the same time a personal audition. Germany’s’shooting star’, who played for 84 minutes, was good on the ball and formed a useful partnership going forward down the left with Marco Reus. Reus himself had two chances to score, first being denied by the ‘keeper on 34 minutes, then shooting wide shortly after the break.

Meanwhile Roman Weidenfeller did well to deny Eto’o on 18 minutes and again shone as he thwarted Moukandjo shortly before the break. He had no chance with Cameroon’s opening goal from Eto’o having saved the striker’s initial shot, he was in no position to stop the follow up. Choupo-Moting’s second on 79 minutes was also unstoppable.

Mats Hummels once again showed good distribution with his passes often cutting through the Cameroonian defence as when he fed Müller on 80 minutes. His sliding tackle in time addedf on also saved what seemed a certain winner for the visitors.
