Marco Reus has just missed out on winning the prize of German “Footballer of the Year”. Despite having to sit out the World Cup and thus not being able to enhance his chances, Reus  was just nine votes behind winner Manuel Neuer in the voting.

Reus, who suffered a bad ankle injury in the final warm-up game against Armenia and is still fighting to regain full fitness, secured 135 votes whilst Neuer garnered 144 votes from the participating journalists. Thomas Müller was placed third. (br)
